18ct White Gold or Platinum: A Comparative OverviewBoth metals—18ct white gold and platinum—have their unique advantages and disadvantages. We are delighted to offer our craftsmanship in either material, but we personally prefer and recommend 18ct white gold for a variety of reasons rooted in our time-tested recipes and formulas. It’s important to note that the following comparisons pertain specifically to our handmade jewellery. Unlike cast, CAD, or 3D-printed options, our handmade pieces maintain the structural integrity and strength of each metal. Here are the key distinctions between the two: 18ct WHITE GOLD Composed of 75% pure gold and 25% alloys, this metal is lighter, weighing approximately 1.0x per gram. 1.0x per gram. Much lighter metal per gram. Our generational alloy contains a high percentage of palladium, which means it will not require rhodium plating if desired. Through our handmade forging process, we believe 18ct white gold is superior in retaining delicate details and enhancing overall wearability. Superior in retaining shine, stays polished longer, and is more resistant to minor scratches on surface. Extremely durable. Long term is great for repairs, if need claws retipped/new setting or general work around diamonds/sapphire and rubies. There is no issue with gold. Less density meaning over decades of wear will lose thickness. PLATINUM Composed of 95% pure metal with 5% alloy, platinum is approximately 11% denser than 18ct white gold. Its density provides a higher resistance to wear, yet platinum does not hold a finish as effectively and is more prone to bending and losing fine details over time. With a density of around 1.28x per gram, it is significantly heavier. Working with platinum poses more challenges and requires a longer working time compared to gold. As a rarer metal than both gold and silver, platinum costs more overall. Repairing platinum is more complex; its melting and soldering temperature exceeds what diamonds can tolerate without risk of burning. Consequently, many jewelers resort to laser repairs, which may not be the best long-term solution. It is softer and more susceptible to dullness caused by minor surface bruises. In conclusion, while both 18ct white gold and platinum have their merits, our experience leads us to favor 18ct white gold for its balance of durability, cost-effectiveness, and superior craftsmanship in handmade jewellery.

We prioritise responsible sourcing practices to ensure that our materials are obtained without compromising ethical standards or contributing to conflict. Your peace of mind and the integrity of our craftsmanship are of utmost importance to us. Diamonds: We ensure that all our diamonds are sourced from vendors who adhere to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, established by the World Diamond Council. This international initiative was created to monitor and eliminate the trade of "conflict diamonds." It applies to all rough diamonds mined since January 1, 2003, mandating that they be sealed in secure containers and accompanied by numbered certificates to guarantee their conflict-free status. By utilising this system, we can confidently assure that all diamonds offered for sale come from legitimate sources that do not fund conflict and comply with United Nations resolutions. Fine Metals: Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). We are proud to align ourselves with the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), a standards-setting organization dedicated to promoting ethical, human rights, social, and environmental practices throughout the jewellery supply chain, including gold, silver, platinum group metals, diamonds, and coloured gemstones. We exclusively purchase our fine metals from suppliers who adhere to RJC standards, ensuring that our materials are ethically sourced and responsibly produced.
